Updated Peugeot 508 family: the models refreshed the exterior, but hardly touched the equipment

The French brand, which is part of the auto giant Stellantis, introduced the “four-door” Peugeot 508 in 2010, and a year later, a station wagon with an addition of SW joined the family. The model changed generation in 2018, and the liftback took the place of the sedan. In 2020, both “five-doors” were presented in “heated” PSE (Peugeot Sport Engineered) modifications. Now it's time for the planned restyling of the flagship "508th" family.

During the update, the liftback and station wagon changed the front part: now the exterior is designed in accordance with the current corporate identity of the French brand. Cars received a different LED matrix head optics (included in standard equipment). The place of two bright "fangs" was taken by thin strips of daytime running lights going down (three from each headlight). The pattern and shape of the radiator grille have changed, in the center of which there is a new “lion” logo of the brand. The air intake, integrated into the front bumper, now also has a different shape: its corners are lowered down and now it looks less like a smile.

Feed liftback and station wagon Peugeot 508 in the course of restyling received fewer changes. The lanterns, interconnected by a wide strip, retained their former shape, but the pattern and slope of the luminous strokes were changed. between them now is not the brand logo, but its letter name. The developers of the updated versions did not change the design of the lower part of the rear bumper.

In the salon "five-door" there are also several new things. So, instead of a gear lever, a selector appeared on the central tunnel, and the steering wheel was decorated with a new Peugeot brand name. The infotainment system is now able to update over the air, and the digital “tidy” has received other options for displaying navigation data and prompts from driver assistants.

During the update, the Peugeot 508 did not change the engine range, so the previously received 3008 and 5008 mild hybrid system based on a 136-horsepower 1.2-liter engine will not get them. Basic versions of the refreshed "508" are still offered either with a 130-horsepower three-cylinder 1.2-liter gasoline engine, or with a 1.5-liter diesel engine of the same power. These options are paired with an eight-speed “automatic”, front-wheel drive only.

Also available for front-wheel drive options is a pair of plug-in hybrid units, which are based on a 1.2-liter internal combustion engine, their return is either 180 (based on the new 150-horsepower internal combustion engine) or 225 hp. (based on a 180-horsepower engine). The only modification with all-wheel drive is the plug-in hybrid PSE (Peugeot Sport Engineered), it is available for both the liftback and the station wagon. The composition of such an installation includes a petrol 200-horsepower “turbo-four” PureTech with a volume of 1.6 liters, working in tandem with a pair of electric motors: 110-horsepower at the front axle and 113-horsepower at the rear. The kit comes with an eight-speed "automatic" e-EAT8, the total return of this system is 360 hp. Hybrids received a larger battery: instead of 11.5 kWh, now 12.4 kWh.

Updated versions of the five-doors will continue to be produced at the French plant Stellantis (located in Mulhouse), they will go on sale later this year. Prices for the refreshed Peugeot 508 have not yet been announced, it is expected that they will be more expensive than the current ones. Note that a pre-reform liftback in the home market in France can now be bought for 40,820 euros, and a station wagon will cost at least 42,040 euros.
