The SUV of the Korean brand has so far debuted in the status of an “adventure” concept – with off-road tires and aggressive bumpers. Photos of the new Hyundai crossover , as well as part of its technical characteristics, appeared on the Web in the middle of last month: they were published in the database of the Chinese Ministry of Industry.
In early March, a prototype SUV lit up without camouflage on the roads, however, only its feed got into the lens; quite recently, photo spies removed the interior of the novelty. Now the manufacturer has decided to show the car officially, but they haven’t lifted the “veil” yet – Hyundai Mufasa debuted as a concept with an addition of Adventure.
The production of the new crossover will be established at the facilities of the Beijing Hyundai joint venture. The company recently confirmed that the new product will enter the market under the name Mufasa. As Kolesa.ru noted earlier, the name Mufasa belonged to the father of Simba, the character in the Disney cartoon The Lion King. It is known that the new SUV will appear on sale in the Chinese market before the end of this year. It is not yet clear whether Mufasa will remain exclusive to the Middle Kingdom, or whether the model will be sent to other markets.
Live photos from the presentation of the show car were shared by the Chinese edition of Autohome . The “adventure” concept, designed in an aggressive style, was equipped with large wheels shod with off-road tires, extended wheel arches made of unpainted plastic, additional footrests, visually emphasized towing eyes, and massive bumper covers. Hyundai Mufasa Adventure also received a rooftop add-on with spotlights integrated into the butt.
The presentation of the serial version of Mufasa will be held as part of the Shanghai Motor Show, which will be held in April. Recall that the list of exterior features of the Hyundai novelty includes embossed stampings on the sidewalls, a sloping roof, black central and rear pillars, a massive black radiator grille with a pattern in the form of three-dimensional strokes, vertical headlight clusters and taillights that are interconnected in such a way that they form one large elongated oval.
In the interior of the commodity SUV, you can see a multifunction steering wheel with a truncated bottom, a gear selector with keys, as well as a large horizontally elongated display that combines a virtual instrument panel and a touchscreen of the infotainment system. Below are the central ventilation vents, and below them is a touch screen for climate control.
The length of the new crossover of the Korean brand is 4475 mm, width - 1850 mm, height - 1665/1681/1685 mm (the figure varies depending on the version), and the distance between the axles is 2680 mm. Recall that in China, Hyundai Mufasa will replace the ix35 crossover, which is still listed in the brand’s lineup in this market: the second-generation car has been introduced since 2017, and at the end of 2020 it underwent a large-scale update . By the way, compared to Mufasa, the current Chinese ix35 is longer (4500 mm) and higher (1710 mm), its width is the same, and the wheelbase is smaller (2640 mm).
There is still no complete official information about the technology of the serial SUV. According to the database of the Ministry of Industry of the People's Republic of China, only one engine has been announced so far for the Hyundai Mufasa - a gasoline 2.0-liter naturally aspirated engine, the output of which is 160 hp. It is expected that the crossover will also have a hybrid version with a 48-volt “electronic addition”.
