The GPX Demon GR200R sports bike is headed to Japan
The basic sports bike from the Thai manufacturer impresses with its features and attractive price tag. GPX is a Thai motorcycle manufacturer that is popular for its affordable and stylish small to medium displacement two-wheelers. The company sources many of its components, including its engines, from China, but much of the assembly takes place at its Thai plant. The GPX model range consists of all kinds of two-wheelers – from maxi-scooters to commuter bikes and retro café racers to sports bikes.
The company has begun expanding outside of its home market and recently launched its entry-level sports bike, the Demon GR200R, in Japan. Featuring a sporty design and a frill-free platform, it is able to keep its price very competitive at just ¥539,000 or the equivalent of $3,840. For the money, you get a basic, if capable, entry-level sport bike with front and rear disc brakes, an inverted front fork and a YSS rear monoshock with adjustable preload. Other updates to the 2023 version include a new full-color TFT display as well as redesigned graphics that give the bike an overall sportier aesthetic.
In terms of performance, the 2023 GPX Demon GR200R has a redesigned engine. More specifically, it now gets a four-valve cylinder head, as opposed to the outgoing version's two-valve unit. The motorcycle is powered by a liquid-cooled, single-cylinder, 198cc fuel-injected engine that produces 19 horsepower and 13 ft-lbs of torque. Power is transmitted to the rear wheel via a six-speed manual transmission and a D.I.D. chain drive.
The GPX Demon GR200R is supported by a steel trellis frame that uses the engine as a stressed member and keeps weight down. The rear suspension is mounted via a clutch and has seven levels of adjustment, so riders can easily fine-tune the bike's suspension depending on where they're riding, as well as whether they're riding with a passenger. Last but not least, the Demon GR200R is lined with LED lights all around, giving it a premium aesthetic.
As mentioned earlier, the Demon GR200R retails for ¥539,000, or approximately $3,840 USD. The bike has not yet been launched in the Japanese market, however GPX is already taking pre-orders for this little sports bike. Deliveries are expected to begin in early 2023.
